Magma 96, Cover Artist: Jean Brundrit
In December 2019, our cover artist, the South African environmental photographer Jean Brundrit, travelled to Antarctica on a research ship. She spent two weeks photographing the world around her. Many of her photographs were taken using a specially crafted lens made of ice.
“And so it begins… I can see layers of velvety black, with the sky slightly lighter than the sea… a few stars are visible… The lighthouse flashing in the night is the last land we will see for a while. The night will recede, too, the further South we go, into the light.”
