The bird perches in the cage,
watching eagerly as people pass by.

​but they don’t understand her language, they wince and covered their ears.

The bird stares intensely out of the cage as people tell her to shush,
​offended that people don’t understand her song.

The bird flaps her wings, screeching, ignored,
longing for people to notice how she feels.
The baby desperately bangs her fists, crying,
wanting people to see how she feels.

The bird flaps her wings, again, again and again,
until she falls silent and still…”Ooh what a sweet bird” people say.

The bird cocks its head confused as she watches people speak,

The bird looks through the window and sees other birds flying around,
she dreams of escaping and soaring the skies with them.

Excitedly she sings, hello!
People clap so happy.

The door opens and the bird, nervously, leaves the cage,
birds, “like me, the same!”, she sings as she flies up to meet them.

The bird dreams of joining a flock and visiting places all over ​the world,
soaring and swooping in the sky with all the other birds!
The girl dreams of travelling around the world
​meeting ​her own people, expressing herself freely!
