Magma Poetry Competition Rules
The competition is open to anyone, including non-UK residents, except Magma Board members and their families.
Poems may be on any subject, must be in English and your own original work. They must not have been published, self-published or accepted for publication in print or online; broadcast; or have won or been placed in another competition at any time.
Prizes
Magma Judge’s Prize
For a poem of up to 80 lines, awarded by George Szirtes, who will read all entries:
1st prize £500
2nd prize £200
3rd prize £100
Magma Editors’ Prize
For a poem of up to 10 lines awarded by a panel of Magma editors
1st prize £500
2nd prize £200
10 Special Mentions £10 each
All poems will be considered for the Judge’s prize. Poems of up to 10 lines will be considered automatically for both prizes.
The competition is open for receipt of entries from 16th October 2011 to 30th November 2011.
Entry fees and payment
You may submit as many poems as you like accompanied by the appropriate fee.
Non-subscribers
i.e. anyone who does not subscribe to Magma Poetry Magazine:
£5 per poem
or £15 for four poems
Subscribers to Magma Poetry Magazine
£3 per poem
or £9 for four poems
Postal entries must be accompanied by a cheque or money order in sterling only. Make cheques or money orders payable to “Magma Poetry” and write your name on the back. Online entries must be paid for online by credit card or PayPal in sterling only.
Online entries
Visit www.magmapoetry.com/competition, where you will be able to upload your poem entries from 16th October to 30th November 2011, and to pay the appropriate entry fee securely by credit card or PayPal. Full instructions and terms and conditions for online entries will be found at the point of online entry.
Postal Entries
Please enclose a completed entry form found either in our competition leaflet, or available to download soon from www.magmapoetry.com/competition. Each poem must be typed in black in single spacing on A4 white paper on one side of the paper only. Poems longer than one page must give their title on the second page. Each poem must be on a separate sheet. Do not include your name or any other identifying marks. Send entries to P.O. Box 68264, London W5 9JY.
General
No alterations can be made after receipt, nor fees refunded.
The judge’s and editors’ decisions are final and no correspondence can be entered into. No entrant may win more than one prize.
Prizewinners will be notified individually in January 2012. The results will also be published on the Magma Poetry website after the prize-giving event.
Copyright of each entry remains with the author, but Magma Poetry has the right to first publication of the winning poems in print or online within six months of the competition deadline.
Entry implies acceptance of all the rules. Failure to comply with the rules will result in disqualification.
