Our exciting new mobile poetry initiative at Ledbury Poetry Festival.
In addition to the Magma Roadshow event, Magma and Ledbury Poetry Festival are bringing poems to those out and about at the festival (1-10 July 2011) via their mobile phones, through a project called Poetry in Motion.
The poetry turntable in the Market Theatre is playing poems by Simon Barraclough, Jacqueline Saphra and Tim Turnbull, who are reading at the Magma Roadshow, 2:45pm on 8 July at Burgage Hall; and by Magma’s Karen McCarthy Woolf, who is reading with Rowyda Amin, 2.15pm, 10 July, also at Burgage Hall.
In addition, the poetry turntable is playing clips of Jean Cocteau’s films La Belle et la Bête and Le Sang d’un Poète. Then there is the interactive Pool of Poets. Who are they, and what are they staring at? Visit the Market Theatre and find out for yourself! They will respond to you…
The other part of Poetry in Motion is the signs around Ledbury where you can download poems over the course of the festival. Each sign provides poems on a theme – Love, Night and Day, the Natural World, Food, Stories, John Masefield or A.E. Housman – and adds new poems every other day. To view the poems at a sign, you’ll need access to the web on your mobile phone. One way is to read the sign’s QR code (you can obtain free QR code readers for most types of smartphone from several sites including i-nigma.com). Alternatively, without the need for any kind of app, just type in the sign’s unique phrase at m.krstl.com on your mobile web browser.
